Bush Fit Mob’s Commitment to Nutrition and Healthy Eating

At Bush Fit Mob (BFM), nutrition education and access to healthy food options are central to all of our programs and activities. We are committed to providing nutritious snacks and meals to children, youth, and community members who participate in our programs and visit our hall, while educating them on the importance of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle habits.

Our nutrition program, funded by Anglicare NT, operates across three communities and outstations on Groote Eylandt. The program emphasizes healthy eating, practical training, and fostering healthy home environments. We proudly showcased the program’s success and positive community impact at the 2024 “We Grow Them Up” Conference.

Key components of our nutrition program include:

Breakfast Holiday Program: Providing healthy breakfast options during holiday programs.
Afterschool Snacks/Food: Offering nutritious snacks to children and youth after school, ensuring they have the energy to learn and grow.
Cooking Classes: Hands-on experiences that teach participants how to prepare nutritious meals.
My Kitchen Rules (MKR) Family Cooking Competition: Bringing families together in a fun, competitive environment where they cook six different dishes, working as a team. Everyone is a winner with prizes for all at the end!
Baking for School Students: Introducing baking activities where students learn to bake cakes and enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Meal Plans: Customized meal plans as part of our men’s and women’s fitness programs.
Grocery Lists: Practical guides to help community members choose healthy foods at local stores.
Cookbook/Recipes Projects: Creative initiatives designed to share simple, nutritious, and delicious recipes.
